Leandro Fonseca teaches drums, percussion and piano at Shine Music School in Barcelona.
His path in music began in Cuba when he was very young. He studied classical music and explored instruments such as the piano, the saxophone and percussion before specialising in the drums.
He studied under Ruy López-Nussa and won first prize at the prestigious JoJazz Festival in Havana, which led to his first record. He then continued his training with Gonzalo del Val and earned a Master’s in Jazz and Modern Music at the Conservatori del Liceu in Barcelona.
Throughout his career he has performed at prominent festivals in Asia and Europe and has collaborated with international figures such as Wallace Roney, Miguel Zenón, Bobby Carcassés, Roberto Carcassés, Harold López-Nussa, Luo Ning and Sexto Sentido, among others.
In 2020 he published his first drum book. Today he combines teaching with his work alongside solo artists, salsa bands and jazz projects.
He has more than 15 years of teaching experience and adapts to any style with great versatility: from jazz, Latin jazz and salsa to pop, soul and R&B. For him, music is a completely natural vocation that brings him deep happiness and fulfilment every time he plays an instrument, and he passes that enjoyment and dedication on to his students in every class. At Shine he also leads combos.
