Agustin Scala

Agustin Scala teaches double bass at the Shine Music School in Barcelona. He specializes in Jazz.

An Italian-Argentine double bass player with almost two decades of experience as a session player both on the international stage and on cruise ships. He trained in renowned institutions such as the Escuela de Música Superior de Catalunya, the Manuel de Falla Conservatory and the Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda.

Agustin Scala was born on January 17, 1984 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is a professional Jazz bassist and contrabassist, with extensive training and experience. He has also ventured into other genres, such as Tango.

Agustín has several degrees to his credit: he is a Technician in Musical Arts specializing in double bass, after having completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Double Bass at the Manuel de Falla National Conservatory, in the City of Buenos Aires. In the same prestigious institution he graduated years later -in 2020- as a Jazz Technician with a specialty in Double Bass. He also studied Tango in parallel at another renowned musical institution in Buenos Aires: the Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda, obtaining the title of Superior Instrumentalist in popular music with a specialty in Tango.

For many years he has worked as a professional session musician for groups of different styles, including klezmer, jazz, tango, cumbia and rock, among others, tours in many provinces of Argentina, as well as in Chile, Uruguay, Mexico and Brazil together with groups and soloists such as: “Tango Orgullo Criollo Sextet”, “Ramiro Barrios Group” (with the prestigious Pipi Piazolla), “Paula Giaco & the Cats Quartet”, “Lucia Boffo Quintet”, “Trio Bottcher, Scala, Filip”, “Matias Dabanch trio” and “Trio Sarra, Scala and Filip”.

From 2015 to 2020, he worked for Holland America Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruises as a sideman and bandleader playing double bass as a member of “The Neptunes Band” and “Ocean Quartet”, traveling throughout the Americas, Polynesia, Asia and Australia. He also worked as musical director and double bass player for the “Tango Passion” production show on board the Ms.Zaandam throughout Latin America and Antarctica.

Today, he continues to perform as a professional session musician. Agustín also teaches. Between 2011 and 2015, he worked as a music teacher in several schools in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and since then, in parallel, has taught private Double Bass classes. His great motivation to continue perfecting his skills as a musician and grow professionally have brought him to Barcelona, ​​where he is currently studying the Barcelona Jazz Master at ESMUC.
